First Visit
Before The First Visit
Before your child's first appointment, discuss the positive aspects of the visit with them, such as the importance of having healthy teeth and a good smile. You can also explain that the doctor will count and take pictures of his/her teeth. Remember, you play a large role in your child's perception of the dental experience, so it is important to convey a relaxed and comfortable attitude toward visiting the dentist. If your child does become afraid, be reassuring. Young children often cry when faced with unfamiliar situations. Working together, we can overcome any apprehension your child may have. Expect your child to do well and enjoy their visit to our office and chances are they will do just that!
The First Visit
The first visit begins with a review of your child's health history followed by a discussion about dental hygiene, diet, fluoride, finger habits and tooth eruption. This conference provides a great opportunity to ask Dr. Greg any questions or voice any concerns you may have regarding your child's dentition. After this discussion, your child will be introduced to our dental team and pick out his/her own toothbrush. Depending on the age of your child, dental radiographs (x-rays) may be taken as well as a dental cleaning and a fluoride treatment. Lastly, Dr. Greg will perform a head and neck examination and will evaluate the health of the teeth, gums and your child's bite. We refer to this process as "counting" teeth. If additional services are needed, they will be scheduled for a later visit.
